Nintendo is one of the latest companies to issue health warnings about 3d TV technology by warning that children under 6 may have eye difficulties if they play with the console in 3D mode.
In 2010 Sony and Samsung jointly put out warnings about their 3D TV products the fear is that they might cause retarded eye development, trigger epileptic fits or other side effects like altered vision and involuntary movements such as eye or muscle twitching, lesser but still worrying are cramps, convulsions, dizziness and nausea. And of course Pregnant women, the elderly, children and unhealthy people are not immune.
A Samsung spokesman said “Viewing 3D television may also cause motion sickness, perceptual after effects, disorientation, eye strain and decreased postural stability.” Sounds like going to the pub but it doesn’t put us off.
I would imagine that a lot of effects are caused by the convincing nature of 3D TV, I guess that seeing someone fall from a building in 3D might give you the same affect in the stomach as a roller coaster does. If 3D perception helps experience things more intensely “good or bad” then it is doing what its meant to do, provide the user with new experiences.
Well remember mobile phones??? No out breaks of brain problems there!!! Its about the same probabilities as a nut allergy.
As reported on 3dtv2u many manufacturers, Samsung and Sony being of the highest profile have all published statements about 3d TV and 3D games, citing that sending different images to each eye could harm a childs eye development (I actually thought that in real life each eye gets a different image!!!) the feeling is that “it does not seem to be based on any meaningful research or medical advice”
He was responding to recent news that major manufacturers have said that 3D TV technology is unsuitable for children.
Katzenberg also spoke about his concerns about 3D television.
He explained that hit “bothers” him slightly about the quality of 3D screens that are being used to view the films, while he feels his team make beautiful productions it is feared that inferior quality screens will ruin the users experience.
